Travelling can be wonderful if its full of excitement, unexpected twists and new experiences. However, we may also have unpleasant surprises, so it doesn’t hurt to prepare for a few things before we set off.

  1. Stay informed

While the joy of spontaneous discovery always makes your heart beat faster, and there’s nothing better than losing yourself a little into the unknown, it’s better to have at least an overall information about the place you’re going to visit. Travel blogs can help you with personal experiences, but local tourist-oriented businesses can also provide useful information about your destination.

Another important step in planning a safe journey is to always save the emergency numbers for that country, as well as know the contact details of your local consulate.

  1. Beware of scammers and thieves

In many cases, criminals take advantage of the fact that they are dealing with a tourist, so it is better not to lose your attention while traveling. To prevent theft, always keep your valuables in a safe place, and if you pull out a map or camera in an open public space, do it with discretion. Tourist accessories attract thieves.

There are already several websites on the internet that summarize common scams in different countries, so it’s worth looking into this before you leave.

Getting to know new people is often one of the highlights of the trip, but even so, it’s better to be cautious. First of all, do not divulge confidential information about yourself to people whose identity you know little about.

  1. Make copies of your documents

You never know when you will need a copy of your documents. Therefore, make a copy of your passport, driving license, ID card, or other important document before leaving. There should be both printed and electronic versions of each.

  1. Learn to ask for help in the language of the country you’re traveling to

The better we understand the language of the country we are traveling to, the more certain it is that we will not be in for an unpleasant surprise. However, once we learn the word HELP, it can be useful in any situation. Several applications have been invented for this over the years, but it’s probably best if you keep a pocket-size travel guide or dictionary with some basic phrases and sentences in the language of that country.

  1. Share your planned route with your trusted people

Before you leave, share your itinerary with a friend or a family member. So that whatever may happen, they will know where you could be at a certain time. Another option is to share your location with a person via GPS so that they can keep track of where you are right through your phone.
